10 weeks of Fun-filled, Action-packed, Overwhelming Heaven!
Hi Everybody,
I know it’s been a long time, but I’ve been overwhelmed with work and unable to post. Not “bad” overwhelmed, but definitely “good” overwhelmed!
Why? Because I’ve been taking writing courses from the Children’s Book Academy, and I’ve been having a blast.
That’s right, for the last 10 weeks I’ve been up to my eyeballs in writing classes from the Children’s Book Academy. The first 5-week course focused on how to write picture books, and the last 5-week course (ending this week) covered how to write and pitch chapter books.
I’ve learned many wonderful things, like the fine differences between picture books and chapter books, how to plot each, how to develop character arcs, what editors, agents and/or publishers expect, and how to write books that young audiences will adore.
This last writing course also included the opportunity to pitch to two publishing houses that don’t usually accept pitches from unagented writers. How cool is that???
These writing courses, hosted by Dr. Mira Reisberg, are packed with goodies to the point of swallowing a writer whole. Dr. Reisberg loves to give much more than she receives, and she does this in the form of interviews, tips, suggestions, live webinars, and a busy FaceBook group that she posts to.
I won’t even attempt to give you a blow-by-blow of what I learned. I’ll simply suggest that you take yourself over to the Children’s Book Academy and see for yourself. You’re gonna love it.
Best wishes and happy writing,
Rita Lorraine
