Great Books I’m Reading
Hi Everybody,
Stopping through to tell you about a wonderful MG (middle grade) set during the Civil Rights era. Don’t miss this one!
The book is called, A Thousand Never Evers, and it is written by debut author Shana Burg. I’ve only been reading this one a couple of days, but I’m already hooked.
The author is not African American, but her “voice” has the ring of authenticity. She is the daughter of a Civil Rights attorney, and grew up hearing stories about Medgar Evers and other important Civil Rights figures. What I love most, so far, is that this is not just a writer who watched a few documentaries or news stories and decided to write a “black” book. This lady’s father moved south to help people through some of these events, and she knows what she’s talking about.
The story is set in the Mississippi Delta, right in the middle of the Civil Rights Movement, and just after the assassination of Medgar Evers.
I’ll keep you posted on my review, which will show on YABooksCentral. Until then, best wishes and happy writing (and reading!)
