Are You and Your Agent a Match?
Hi Everybody,
Here’s a tip I thought you might use if you’re in the market for an agent. I got this alert from Guide to Literary Agents, and it came right on time.
Here’s the thing: For the last few months, I’ve been studying different agents, their likes and dislikes, the last books they worked on, and what they’re looking for now.
The thing is, I’ve been so consumed with making myself presentable and acceptable to them, it never occurred to me that like any relationship where humans are involved, the feeling should be mutual.
So I composed a quicklist of questions to ask. Things like,
1. How many clients do you have?
2. Where would I fall on that list of clients? At the top? In the middle? At the end?
3. What are your plans for helping me shape my career?
4. How easy (or difficult) is it to get in touch with you when I have questions?
As you can see, my list is still being developed. In the meantime, I got this email from Guide to Literary Agents. If you’re not on the free newsletter list, sign up immediately!
So without further ado, here’s the link to Guide to Literary Agent’s article, Five Signs a Literary Agent is a Good Match For You:
