Don’t Make Me Throw You Under the Bus!
Hi All,
Are you an aspiring writer who never gets around to writing? Are you unable to come up with original story ideas, yet find yourself fabricating SPECTACULAR excuses for why you DON’T write whenever someone asks you about your work?
Is your talent lying dormant like a germ or a larvae, just waiting for your writing muse to inspire you? If this is you, you’ve got to change your ways! And there’s no better way to do that than to just put yourself out there.
Now, I don’t normally condone throwing anybody under the bus, because…well, it just sounds so painful. But in this case, I think I should…throw you under the bus, I mean. If you’re an inactive writer with an encyclopedia of excuses for why you never write, I truly feel it would be best to just toss you right under the bus and let its gigantic wheels crush some sense into your head.
Why? Because there’s no excuse for excuses. There’s no excuse for not writing; at least not in the New Millenium there isn’t.
You can do all sorts of things to thin out your congealed writing blood and get some life into your fingers. For example, you can run a Google search on writing and download all sorts of FREE articles and lessons you can use. You can join free writing listservs (go to www.yahoogroups.com) chocked full of people just like you, who are trying to get their writing careers off the ground. You can join free communities like Verla Kay’s Blueboard (watch for my upcoming post about Verla Kay), and learn all sorts of wonderful things about writers and writing. And yes, I’ll even dare to use the “L” word: LIBRARY! You can go to that wonderful, mysterious, misunderstood place called a Library and check out books on the writing craft.
You can. You really can!
Listen, I’m not trying to nag you or anything like that. It’s just that I hear so many excuses from aspiring writers about how they want to write, but how things are stopping them, I just couldn’t put off writing this post any longer.
Some say they’re too broke to write, some claim they’re too sick, and some even say…get this, they don’t have any paper. Yes, I’ve actually heard that excuse. And one writer even said, “Some folks have to work for a living!” Well, duh…I know that, because I’m one of them.
Stop with the excuses already, and just do it. Just get your pencil and paper and do it. Find a group and join it. Enter a contest, and…you guessed it, just do it.
So it is with a great deal of love, affection and encouragement that I now say to you: Get off your a%& and get out there, would you? Find the right group, article or lesson for you and DO it. Believe me, you’re not doing yourself or anyone else any favors by just sitting around talking about all the things you want to write about.
Just do it…or get thrown under the bus.
Best wishes and happy writing,
Rita Lorraine
