Black History Chattanooga – 2012

Hi Everybody,
Yes, it’s that time again…it’s Black History Month, and I’m coming to you with a pleasant surprise – and an honor – from NewsChannel9.

What’s the surprise? Why, that my book, African Americans of Chattanooga: A History of Unsung Heroes is still encouraging readers of all races, and is apparently perfect for Black History Month in Chattanooga.

Here’s the first NewsChannel9 video clip using content and photographs from my book. The subject is the incomparable Dr. Emma Rochelle Wheeler, who settled in Chattanooga in 1905 before there were any hospitals for African Americans AND at a time when African American female physicians were a rare breed:

Hope you enjoyed that clip as much as I enjoyed researching and writing about it.

This next clip is a brief excerpt about Mr. J.A. Strictland, entrepreneur-extraordinaire, who lead a very successful African American-run business and shipped products all across the southeast.

Thanks NewsChannel9, for doing such a great job on these clips. And thanks to Mr. Justin Hall, who first contacted me about their interest.

If you’d like to purchase my book, just click on the Amazon link to the right and you’ll be taken directly to their website.

Best wishes and happy Black History Month,

Rita Lorraine
